PERIODIC INSPECTION AND TEST OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

Periodic Inspection and Testing is necessary because all electrical installations deteriorate due to a number of factors:

Damage
Wear and Tear
Corrosion
Excessive Electrical Loading
Ageing
Environmental Influences

Legislation requires that certain electrical installations are maintained in a safe condition and therefore must be periodically tested.

Inspection and Test should be considered if:

It is a requirement implied by Licensing Authorities, Public Bodies, Insurance Companies, Mortgagors and Landlords.
Additionally, to assess compliance with the current IEE Wiring Regulations.
On a change of ownership or tenancy of the premises.
On a change of use of the premises.
After alterations to the original installation.
Because of any significant change in the electrical loading of the installation.
Where there is a reason to believe that damage may have been caused to the installation.

Maximum periods between Inspections:

Commercial Installations - 5 years.
Industrial Installations - 3 years.
Buildings open to the public - 1 year.
External Installations - 3 years.
Caravan Parks - 1 year.
Fire Alarms - 1 year.
Short Term Installations - 3 months.
Site Installations - 3 months.
